Hello! I’m Regina, and I’m thrilled to share this collection of homemade dog food recipes with you. This is a copulation of a lot of research and trial and error. I have given credit to all the recipes that I found online, when an author was listed. My motivation for writing this book stems from a pressing concern: our beloved pets are not living as long as they used to, and I want to help you understand why. It’s my hope that by sharing my journey and the lessons I’ve learned, we can give our furry friends the vibrant, healthy lives they deserve.

The harsh reality is that many of our pets are suffering from chronic diseases and facing shorter lifespans primarily due to the food we feed them daily. I was once in the same boat, relying on what I thought was a high-quality, expensive dog kibble for my dogs. Unfortunately, this led to unhealthy weight gain and a lethargic demeanor. When my 12-year-old Chihuahua mix could no longer jump onto the couch, I knew I had to act. A visit to the vet revealed elevated liver and renal function tests, and I was told she needed to lose about three pounds. I was shocked to hear that the very kibble I trusted was failing her.

The vet recommended more exercise and less food, but I worried—how could I get her to walk more when she struggled to keep up? Each attempt at a walk ended in her panting heavily and wanting to turn back. It was then that I turned to the internet, seeking answers and solutions. I discovered that the chemicals and processing involved in kibble production could be detrimental to our dogs’ health, and everything I read pointed toward the benefits of homemade dog food.

At first, I hesitated. With my busy schedule, how could I manage to prepare homemade meals for my dogs? Yet, knowing I had to make a change, I began experimenting with various recipes I found online. I quickly realized that, much like people, dogs have their own preferences and tastes. At that time, I had my older dog and a lively six-month-old puppy who had boundless energy.

The results of my experiments are what you’ll find in this book. I’m delighted to share that my once ailing Chihuahua is now 14 and a half years old, with all her health markers back to normal. She’s regained her ability to jump on the couch and even enjoys playing with her toys again! While she may not walk far, she’s more active than she was, and that’s a victory in my book. My puppy is now two years old, full of vitality, and perfectly healthy.
